Hotlinking is a form a flattery
Nov. 9th, 2005
I hate sounding like a bandwidth-monger, but DUBYA TEE EFF MySpacers?!?I checked my stats logs and I noticed all this hotlinking going on from MySpace. It took a few minutes to realize that it was more than one myspace account linking, since myspace has a lot of unique URLs due to their token-y goodness.
Here's what I found:
*WARNING: Some profiles contain audio stuff and you probably need a MySpace account to see them*
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 profile comments and a blog hotlinking Felt Up images on MySpace.
Yeargh, profile comments are one thing.. but I dislike the blog post that is clearly using my blog stuff to support their blog post.
Also hotlinking is this blog, but they don't seem to be using my material as part of their blog post as much as discussing it on it's own, and I don't mind that one bit. Since I only eat danishes, and don't speak Danish, I can only guess what it says.. Somehow I think they don't understand that it was meant to be facetious, and that makes me chuckle.
I'm sure many of these folks got the images from Google Image searching about, since I know those feltings had particularly interesting words in the posts (douche, menstruation, puke). Also this confirms that notion (they are kind enough to not hot link the image they provide).
But there is an upside to all this in the form of extra exposure, the annoying branding in the bottom of each comic ensures this. So, rather than take steps to stop the MySpace hotlinking, I'm just going to keep an eye on all these hot links. Actions will be taken if it does get out of hand, though I doubt that could ever occur.
Because I require readers for my crappy life, for some strange reason.
