Cleaning is gross

I decided to clean the hardware on the kitchen cupboards. I put it all in a pot of water and boiled it for awhile because the grease and nicotine from the previous tenets was really hard to get off. After they'd simmered I gave them a small scrub down and they became amazingly less disgusting. Some of the filth peeled off in a layer the color and consistency of orange onion skin, really crispy and sort of translucent.
As my father would say, it was enough to gag a maggot.
